Before There Was Penn State, There Was Baylor

In 2003, Baylor basketball coach Dave Bliss hatched a plan to cover up his payment of players. He told coaches and players to tell investigators a murdered player (killed by a teammate) was a drug dealer, thus explaining why he had so much cash. When assistant Abar Rouse objected, Bliss threatened to fire him, so Rouse recorded Bliss and turned the tapes into the NCAA. Baylor was punished, Bliss was show-cause banned for ten years, and Rouse found himself a on outcast. Prominent coaches like Jim Boeheim, Coach K, and Tom Penders chose to criticize Rouse and not Bliss, questioning how he could be trusted.
Baylor started commemorating the ten-year anniversary two weeks ago, when Brittney Griner revealed she was told to hide being gay by her coaching staff.
